The Parabolas
Picture 1: This picture is a Badminton racket that makes two parabolas, one that opens up and one that opens down. We found it on the Physical Education class because we are currently on the Badminton unit.
Picture 2: This picture is a pink backpack belonging to Jose’s little sister. It was found on her room and it makes a parabola that opens up.
Picture 3: This picture is a parabola formed when we were playing Angry Birds on Tony’s phone. The birds flying towards the pigs create a parabola-shaped trajectory that opens down.
Picture 4: This picture is the handle to the “bodega” in Jose’s house. It creates a parabola that opens up.
Picture 5: This picture is a guitar pick that was found on Tony’s house. Tony uses this to play the guitar and since it has a heart shape, it creates a parabola that opens down.
Picture 6: This picture is the moving photography that is required for this project. Tony and Jose borrowed a baseball from Mr. Mendez and decided to start “juggling” and try to imitate circus acts. As we can see, the parabola makes a parabola that opens down.
Picture 7: This picture is an egg shaped clock that Tony had in his room. It has an oval-shaped top that happens to form a parabola that opens down.
Picture 8: This picture is a slinky that was found on Gabriel’s room (Jose’s brother). When playing with the slinky, the gravitational pull on the slinky created a parabola that opened down during the process.
